Description:

Interested in advancing your kayaking skills and exploring one of the most beautiful and rugged coastlines on the West Coast? La Push offers a great variety of venues whether you’re interested in learning to Surf, Rock Garden, Exploring Sea Caves, or Immersing Yourself in the Coastal Wildlife. This weekend of Coastal Sea Kayaking offers a plethora of Skill Development, Coastal Navigation, and Exploration. Optimal conditions would allow Day 1 to filled with Surf Launching and Landing before setting off to explore all the nooks and coves around James Island. As we meander around the island, we will find opportunities for skill development in rocky coastal surges. The first day will be focused on developing team cohesion, having fun, and preparing for day 2. On the second day, the plan will be to set out towards Toleak Point (Conditions Permitting) and exploring Sea Arches, Sea Spires, and Sea Otters. The Marine life is in abundance in this stretch of coast.

Class Size:

5 to 1 Student to Instructor Ratio. Additional Instructors and Safety Boaters will be employed depending on participation.

Goals:

Increase comfort and awareness when paddling in Ocean Swell Conditions. Practice and adapt skillsets to coastal environments. Explore and observe the magnificent landscape and wildlife of the Olympic National Park Coastline.

*This trip is appropriate for advanced beginner/intermediate level paddlers*

Location: First Beach via James Island Viewpoint La Push, Washington

Intended Paddling Venues:

  • Caves and Coves around James island (approx. 6 miles of paddling)

  • Coastal Tour of Second Beach, Third Beach and Toleak Point (15+ Miles Roundtrip)

Required Gear:

  • Drystuit or Wetsuit

  • Helmet

  • Paddle

  • Spray Skirt

  • PFD

  • VHF Radio

  • Tow Line (not required)

  • Paddle Float

  • Bilge Pump
